Project Overview
"Matilda the Musical," a feature film adaptation of the beloved stage production, brought Roald Dahl's classic story to the big screen with vibrant characters, dazzling choreography, and unforgettable music. The film required costumes that celebrated the whimsical, rebellious, and heartfelt essence of the story while reflecting the contrasting worlds of Matilda, her classmates, and the adults in her life.
Scope of Work
- Supported the costume department in sourcing, preparing, and maintaining costumes for the cast.
- Assisted with fittings to ensure costumes aligned with the characters’ personalities and narrative requirements.
- Provided on-set wardrobe support, ensuring continuity and managing costume changes during production.
- Collaborated with the costume designer and team to bring the film’s imaginative and dynamic vision to life.
As a Costume Assistant, my role involved helping to create and maintain the distinct looks for each character, ensuring they captured the story’s emotional depth and whimsy. I worked closely with the costume team to source and organize a wide range of pieces, from playful and colorful costumes for the schoolchildren to exaggerated and outlandish outfits for Matilda’s eccentric parents.
During fittings, I assisted in tailoring and adjustments, ensuring that every costume was both practical for the actors and true to the character’s personality. On set, I managed wardrobe continuity across scenes and provided support for quick changes, particularly during complex musical sequences where attention to detail was crucial.
The costumes played a vital role in bringing "Matilda the Musical" to life, visually enhancing the story's themes of individuality, empowerment, and creativity. The final film successfully transported audiences into Matilda’s world, with the costumes adding vibrancy and depth to the characters and the overall production. It was an incredible experience to contribute to such a celebrated and visually stunning film.
